Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry, Enugu, has revealed why he disappeared few days back, stating that he was detained because of Nnamdi Kanu.
According to him, the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese Most Rev Callistus Onaga was responsible for his “unexplained disappearance” and not the Department of State Services.
Last week Wednesday, Fr Mbaka criticized the Muhammadu Buhari over the insecurity in the nation. Before his recent fall out with Buhari, Fr. Mbaka endorsed and supported the President’s 2015 election.
After giving his support, Fr. Mbaka called for the resignation of Buhari, as he claimed the president’s administration has failed to tackle security issues in the country.
Days after his comments, his followers claimed that Mbaka was kidnapped, as they stormed the premises of the Bishop to search for the clergy.
They accused the Bishop of kidnapping and handling Maka to the state DSS. However, Mbaka later reappeared to rebuild the claims after the DSS spokesman denied his followers claims.
After his reappearance – which calmed the tension – the Bishop of Enugu diocese, Callistus Valentine Onaga, announced that Mbaka has been suspended for one month.
Speaking on the developments, Fr Mbaka clarified that it was not the DSS that detained him.
Mbaka said his unexplained disappearance was the handiwork of Bishop Onaga.
Mbaka said Bishop Onaga ordered him “to leave adoration ground, parish house and be on silence for 30 days” because he spoke in favour of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB, and many other issues.
According to a report by Vanguard newspaper, Mbaka said the planned 30-day detention later led to the attack on the official residence of the Bishop.
Mr Mbaka said,
“if the bishop had listened to my pleas that they should allow him to go back to the adoration ground to attend a scheduled programme and then use the opportunity to inform the worshippers that he would be holding house prayers for 30 days, the destruction done to the property would not have happened.”
